Description
This pen is part of the 'Around the World in 80 Days' collection by Montbanc. This line celebrates the succes of this famous novel written by Jules Verne. The novel was published in 1873 and it covers the adventures of Phileas Fogg and Jean Passepartout. However, not only does the book tell the story of Phileas and Jean, it also marks a historical moment in time, namely the transport revolution in the 19th century.
The writing instrument captures the story of the Around the World in 80 Days Journey, from London to Bombay. There are several elements located on the pen that are derived from this journey. The card suits symbol on the clip refers to the card games Fogg played at the Reform Club and the wager he made of twenty thousand pounds saying that he would be able to travel around the world during these days. Also, on the cap ring "18 DAYS" is engraved, reflecting on the amount of days it took for the first stage of the journey.
Furthermore, the laser engraved steamboat and waves on the pen represents the crossing of seas during the first part of the journey. As for the nib, the hot air-balloon shows Verne's overall fascination with travel and is also a symbol that reflects on his other novel "5 Weeks in a Balloon". Lastly, the color Indigo Blue is a result of mixing London Purple with Mediterranean Sea blue, a brilliant way of translating Verne's story into a writing instrument.
The fountain pen is made of lacquer, the resin classique, with platinum coated fittings. The nib consists of Au585 solid gold and is rhodium coated.
