During the post-war period, he was a valuable member of the French art movement Nouveau Realism, and is known for his iconic blue colored paintings. Interestingly, the deep blue color was inspired by the sky, and he even officially named it as International Klein Blue (IKB).

Thus, the iconic color has formed the main distinguishing feature of the pen. The body of the pen is made of lacquer and is finished with a matte blue layer.
